What is Sitting in the Power?

When developing as a medium, you will often hear teachers emphasize the importance of meditation and the ability to sit in stillness as essential for mediumship development. However, how many are actually teaching the importance of “Sitting In The Power” (SITP)? You might be surprised to learn that many are not. But why is that? Sitting in the power is the most crucial practice a medium can learn. It is truly a game changer for working with spirit and elevates their work to new heights.
What Is SITP:
Sitting in the power involves raising your awareness of your spiritual self. The goal is to set aside your human self to strengthen your connection with your spirit, Higher Self, and soul. When practiced regularly, this helps you become more sensitive to the energy around you. As your aura expands, it naturally enhances spirit communication and the development of your psychic senses. When you become familiar with your own spirit energy, you’ll be more aware when another spirit enters your space.

Sitting in the power aims to make you more receptive to your spirit. During this practice, you may begin to feel a buildup of energy and excitement within. The intent is for this energy to gradually expand outward, allowing you to connect deeply with your spirit self while also attuning to the energy of the universe.

What It's Not:
It's essential to understand what "sitting in the power" (SITP) is not. It should not be confused with typical meditation practices that encourage a passive state. SITP is not intended for communicating with spirits, receiving downloads or channeling messages from a higher source, receiving healing, or going into a trance. While it may lead to a natural sense of ease, it is not specifically designed for stress relief or relaxation.

Many people mistakenly equate traditional meditation with SITP, but the two are not the same. When sitting in the power, you are expanding your internal light and connecting with your inner wisdom. You should be feeling into yourself as a spiritual being. If you begin to feel the presence of other spirits during this practice, it means you have transitioned into a meditative state, which is more passive. Intent is crucial; spirits understand the sacred nature of SITP and will not interfere during this time. Only after you have completed your session may they choose to make themselves known if you wish to communicate.

Benefits:
During early development, you may find that sustaining a long connection with spirit can be challenging. While spirit is always present, the ability of a medium to raise their vibration and maintain the link determines the strength of their connection to the spirit realm.

SITP (Sitting In The Power) not only helps raise your vibration but also strengthens your spiritual abilities, allowing you to maintain your connection to spirit for longer periods. Remember, we are all spirits having a human experience. When we communicate with spirit from that perspective, we operate in our natural form, resulting in a stronger connection.

For those who conduct multiple readings in a day—such as at psychic fairs or during live events in front of large audiences—it is essential to not only sustain a high vibration but also maintain a longer connection with the spirit realm. Therefore, having a consistent SITP practice is crucial.
The Process:

Now that you understand what "sitting in the power" means and its benefits, I will guide you through the process. When committing to any spiritual practice, it's important to first establish a sacred space in your home. This area should be quiet and undisturbed while you are sitting in the power or meditating.

In your sacred space, consider setting up an altar. You can include crystals, candles, incense, and objects or statues that bring you joy, peace, love, and motivation. You might also want to incorporate items that remind you of loved ones and ancestors. Be creative—enjoy the process!

Some people like to include representations of the five elements: earth, air, water, and fire. For example, you could use crystals for earth, wind chimes for air, a table fountain for water, and candles for fire. Additionally, having relaxing music available—or, as I prefer, the sounds of ocean waves or nature—can help drown out any potential disturbances, allowing you to maintain your focus.

Now let’s begin…

Sitting In The Power:

Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed, a space that allows you to freely express yourself without judgment.

Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.

Gently move your head in a circular motion in both directions a few times.

Roll your shoulders back until you feel your body start to relax.

Begin to focus on your breath. Take a few deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling out of your mouth.

At this point, you should feel relaxed. However, if you notice any areas of tension in your body, breathe in white light and exhale the stagnant energy until the tension is no longer noticeable. Once you are fully relaxed, you can move on.

Imagine a white light shining from your heart chakra.

Visualize this loving light expanding in all directions until it creates a sphere of white light around you.

Feel the energy of the white light surrounding you as it expands and envelops the room you’re in.

Now, visualize the sphere of light expanding to cover your home, your city, your state, your continent, and finally, the entire planet.

As you sit in this calming sphere of light, visualize your spirit rising outside of your physical body.

Feel the weightlessness of your spirit as it begins to float upwards, moving out of your home, through the atmosphere, and above the planet.

As you gaze down at the Earth, connect with your spirit energy and your bond with the universe and all living things.

Sit with this feeling of excitement for a while. You may notice sensations like bubbles popping all over your body.

When you are ready to return, visualize your spirit descending through the atmosphere, back to your continent, your state, your city, down through your home, and slowly back into your physical body.

Wiggle your fingers and toes.

Gently roll your head and shoulders in a circular motion.

Finally, open your eyes. Welcome back!

Setting aside at least 5 to 20 minutes each day to sit in the power will help you build a strong connection to your spirit, which will significantly enhance your mediumship abilities. If you're unable to do this on your own, there are guided meditations available from top psychic mediums that you can listen to. I recommend the following:
